Lisa Woon's Letter For Help........
I would like to let you know about the journey I am about
to embark on. I've decided to run a full marathon this fall
in memory of Claire Elizabeth Lamb. Claire was the little
sister of Jessica, a student in my grade two class. Although
I never had the chance to meet this brave little girl, I learned
a lot about her through Jessica and her family. Claire fought
an incredible battle against Leukemia and from what I've been
told by Jessica and her family, Claire was quite the trooper.
I know that her big sister Jessica really adored her.
I'd like to tell you a little more about Claire. She was
born on January 20th, 2003. In September of 2006, the Lamb
family learned that Claire was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia (ALL). It was complicated with a very rare condition
called Hypodiploidy. For more information regarding ALL please
select the following link: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/ALLinchildren
Unfortunately, after a long and courageous battle, Claire
lost her life on November 5th, 2007. This was obviously a
very difficult time for Claire's family and friends. Words
can't express the sadness I personally felt for Claire's family.
I felt like I needed to do something to try and help others
in this situation.
This brings me to my run. I am currently training for the
Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on September 28th, 2008. The
run begins at 7:00 AM at the corner of Wellington and Simcoe
Streets in Toronto . This is something I've never done before
and is really going to be a challenge for me.
To put it bluntly, I need your help. It is my goal to raise
$500 for each of the 26 miles that I will run and to donate
these proceeds to the Starbright Children’s Foundations Programs
(http://www.starlightcanada.org),
a foundation the Lamb’s hold in high regard.
This foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
making a world of difference for seriously ill children and
their families. Claire spent a great deal of time in the Starlight
Room at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto . It was here that she
could forget, for a time, that she was ill. The Starlight
room provided a fun, safe and caring environment during her
long stays at the hospital. The Starlight Room is one of the
many ways that the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation
helps seriously ill children.
If you are interested in supporting me with my endeavour,
donations can be made online at: http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=1583
Donations WILL be eligible for a tax receipt.
Thank you so much for supporting the Starlight Starbright
Children's Foundation and me!
Please remember that every contribution counts!
Yours truly,
Lisa
