What We Do

GREAT ESCAPES provides a variety of special outings for seriously ill children and their families, allowing them to create memories outside of hospital settings and meet other families with similar needs.

Everything about a Great Escape is designed to make a sick child feel extraordinarily special. More importantly, Great Escapes allow families a rare chance to feel 'normal" as they experience fun activities in a friendly, supportive and accepting environment.

"Starlight has a huge impact, not only on my family, but on everyone we have spoken to at one of your GREAT ESCAPES events. We really appreciate the chance to forget about all the difficult stuff we have to go through and just have fun. We are so excited to go to every event and we enthusiastically wait to hear what is going on next month. We truly appreciate all that you do-and I mean that from the heart."
- Alex K., a GREAT ESCAPES father.

"I wanted to thank Starlight for the tickets to the Vancouver Canadians game and the Starlight picnic. It was great to meet you Debbie and see the other Starlight organizers and member families. Our kids had a blast and it was an excellent event. We look forward to seeing you again at future events. Great job and thanks again!"
-Thomas M., a GREAT ESCAPES father

For the second year in a row, Rocky Mountaineer partnered with Starlight to create the trip of a lifetime for many of our families…a train ride on the Whistler Mountaineer train! Thirteen families travelled by train and then gondola to the top of Whistler for a scavenger hunt and then enjoyed ice cream in the village before heading back home.

Many thanks to the management and staff at Rocky Mountaineer for helping make this trip so much fun!

GREAT ESCAPES is considered one of Starlight's most significant tools. We hold monthly events throughout the Lower Mainland. To find out more about our 2008 - 2009 GREAT ESCAPES events calendar please contact the BC Great Escapes Coordinator.
