Need a feel-good reason to smile today? We’re back with another feel-good story of the day! Whether it’s helping your kids do their school work from home or re-watching your favourite series, we are all learning to adjust to the new normal we’ve found ourselves living in.
Even in a world turned upside down, there are countless people, both in and outside our Starlight Canada community, who are making choices every day to protect others and help those in need. Two individuals who exemplify these values to the core, are powerhouse father-daughter duo, Mike and Shaina Lee.
Father-daughter duo’s impact felt from hospital to home
While you might not see Mike Lee on the front lines, families across the country have been directly impacted by his kindness over the years. Mike has been a long-time supporter of many community causes, including Starlight Canada.
Since 2015, Mike has been passionately giving back to seriously ill children through numerous Starlight Canada events and campaigns, including Drive 4 Smiles and 12 Days of Starlight. As a direct supporter of our children’s programs over the years, such as WARD+ROBES, he was thrilled to learn about the launch of our newest Play From Home initiative.
In these trying times for us all, Mike is using this time where he could feel helpless to positively impact the lives of others. When he heard of Starlight Canada’s emergency COVID-19 response program, his company, Leetwo Metal Inc., was quick to donate 50 Play From Home Packs to seriously ill children across the country.
“Let’s not forget the kids during these times,” Mike said. “They need support more than ever!”
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. While Mike takes care of Starlight children at home, his daughter, Shaina, is on the front lines taking care of patients in-hospital. As a registered nurse at the Jewish General Hospital ICU, now deemed a COVID-19 treatment hospital, Shaina shows her courage and commitment to helping others each and every day.

Starlight Canada sends their warmest thanks and appreciation to this extraordinary father-daughter duo for helping other families in need during this difficult time — from those stuck at home to those fighting in-hospital. Thank you for reminding us that whenever there are hard times, there are always stronger people.
Mike’s donation with Leetwo Metal Inc. will give 50 isolated, vulnerable children a chance to break up their daily routine with a new at-home activity delivered right to their doorstep! “The anticipation is real. My daughter told me yesterday that she is bored of looking at the same walls every day,” a Starlight mom shared. “This has given them all something to look forward to.”
